Welcome! Let’s talk classic & traditional home design.

classic traditional home design

Hello there! I’m Cassie, and I’m thrilled to have you here on my brand-new website.

This is an incredibly exciting moment for me and my family. I’ve been planning this venture for quite some time, and about four months ago, I teamed up with Emma at 61 Design. Armed with just a piece of paper, a few notes, some pictures, an idea in my head, and an unwavering passion for helping clients achieve their dream homes, we embarked on this journey. And now, here we are!

My personal design style leans heavily towards the classic and traditional. My husband Dave and I built our own home right here in Central Ballarat, and we couldn’t be prouder of the result. Classic style homes exude timeless luxury with intricate details, and they welcome you with bold, eye-catching features from the moment you step inside.

In this blog, I’ll share some valuable tips on how to achieve the classic and traditional home look that I’m so passionate about.

Embrace Neutral Tones

Classic and Traditional homes typically feature whites or neutral tones. I’ve found that Haymes Paint Ballarat’s Modesty White works wonders. This clean and bright white can increase the brightness of your room and create an inviting atmosphere. The Minimalist neutral series from Haymes Paint is also an excellent choice for two-tone walls, offering a range from a whiter shade (1) to a darker one (7). These neutral tones are a staple in interior design, providing a perfect backdrop for your classic style.

Opt for Beautiful Timber Floors

To add warmth to your classic home without compromising its timeless charm, consider beautiful timber floors. They not only infuse warmth but also introduce texture and contrast to your interior.

Shaker Style Cabinetry

One key feature of classic design is shaker-style cabinetry. This style is characterised by simplicity and elegance, often completed with detailed door hardware in chrome, brass, or brushed nickel.

Bold Skirting Boards and Architraves

Enhance the frames around your doors and windows with the use of thick, tall skirting boards and architraves. These bold details contribute to a sophisticated and complete classic look.

Wall Panelling or VJ Board

Wall panelling or VJ board is a popular choice in classic traditional homes. It adds character and style, creating the look of a period-style home as a showstopping feature.

Traditional Tapware

Traditional tapware is a must to enhance the “classic” style. Look for finishes in nickel, brass, or chrome to maintain the authentic appeal of your design.

Distinctive External Features

The exterior of a traditional Classic home is defined by gables and cladding. Clean lines of weatherboard contrast beautifully with white window frames and timber railings. Neutral whites and greys create the perfect inspired exterior.

Add Pops of Colour

To complement your classic look, consider adding pops of colour, such as navy blue and green. You’ll often find Provincial-style timber tables and chairs as well as statement pendant lights, which provide the perfect finishing touch to your traditional home.

I hope these tips inspire you to embark on your journey towards creating a classic and traditional style home that exudes timeless luxury and charm.
